Huge fan of gloom! Card illustration awesome, theme great. Easy to play and the flavour text hilarious!
My son and I have played many games already - seems to make better use of the neutrals and the separatist faction is very unique in its use of exiled cards. Recommended!
As a follow up to Hostage Negotiator this game ramps up the theme and adds some clever board play. The result is something that absolutely nails the horror movie feel but does add quite a bit of set up time vs Hostage Negotiator.
The beauty of the game is how the base system stays in place and then you can swap in different boxes to add your favorite horror movie tribute.
Be warned, there is some pretty cruel dice luck but after reading some tips, there is a way to play and better manage that luck to have a fighting chance.
Highly recommended for solo players who remember the good old days of slasher movies and beyond.
For me, Hoplomachus is Chip Theory's best game so far. The keywords are not as overwhelming as the others, the gameplay is simple and clean and the campaign is not overwhelming at all.
The best part of the game is the smaller, bite sized battles that allow me to play a session in under 30 minutes if I'm short on time. Levelling up your hero and building up your troop of specialized warriors is super satisfying.
The campaign did run a bit long but with the Mercury's Boots rule changes it's now a faster/tighter experience if you want it.
With the top notch production from Chip Theory, the short sessions and the easy to follow rules this has quickly become a top 5 game for me.
I had picked up an older, original, version of the Ashes core set and needed the upgrade to play Red Rains. This was an affordable and easy way to get caught up.
The included sheet shows you what cards to swap so it's quite easy to make the change.
Highly recommended for anyone with the older version and mandatory to play Red Rains.
