Award winning game author Martyn F takes you back to the start of civilization. You take on the role of a clan leader and explore the landscape, discover new tools and offer to holy places. All this to gather as much status as possible.

Epoch: Early Inventors is very thematic and tries to stay as close to reality as possible.

Before starting the game you build a landscape of hexagonal playing cards and holy places.

In your turn you can carry out 1 action and/or develop 1 card and/or offer to 1 holy place.

You can choose between the following actions: gather food, fish (for food), hunt for deer, butcher deer, explore adjacent cards or work to get raw material.

You need food to move around the game board and develop cards. Gathering food and fishing are basically the same actions, but depending on the tools you have, the one action might give you more food than the other.

You need raw materials to develop cards and offer to the holy places. Sometimes raw materials can help you to heighten the proceeds of actions. The action "Work" can get you raw materials. The type of landscape you are currently standing on determines how much work it is to get hold of a certain raw material. Raw materials used in the game are: wood, flax, stone, flint, clay and iron ore.

Butchering animals can not only get you food, but also skins, bones and tendons.

Exploring cards adds to your status. It also opens up more cards to be developed.

To develop a card, you need to "pay" the food and materials depicted on the card.

Once you have developed a card, you can use the tool, equipment or knowledge of this card to your advantage. E.g. Rope Making allows you to turn 2 flax into 3 ropes. Sowing gives you 2-4 extra food, when gathering food. An axe makes it easier to chop wood.

By cleverly using your own cards and those of your opponents, you try to offer materials to as many holy places as you can, thereby increasing your status even more.

After 14-20 rounds the game is over. The player that has collected the most status has won.

Oklahoma Boomers takes you back to the year 1889. The Land Run of Oklahoma has just taken place, and now you and your opponent strive to get your Boomers the largest homesteads — but that can be harder than it looks!

Each player has three Boomers. On a turn, a player moves one Boomer in a straight line on the game board grid, moving it as many spaces as they wish. After this, he may use this Boomer and one of the opponent's Boomers to place cornerstones on the game board; these cornerstones are placed on the intersections where these two Boomers would meet, should they move toward one another. (If one of the Boomers couldn't reach an intersection point due to another piece being in the way, that cornerstone is not placed.)

Chains of cornerstones form borders on the game board, and at some point these borders will close off certain areas from the rest of the game board. If Boomers of only one color are in an area, this area/homestead belongs to the owner of those Boomers.

The game ends once all Boomers have their own homestead. Players receive 1 point for every square in their homesteads, and whoever has the higher score wins.

Backers on Spieleschmiede also got 4 small expansions:
- Red River
- Santa Fe
- Silberminen
- Sooner

Note: This game is in English, German and Italian.  English rules can be found here.

Two thousand years ago on the borders of the Roman Empire, life goes on as might be expected — but barbarians lurk across the border, so not only must the players grow grain in the fields, catch fish, and chop wood, but they must also maintain watchmen in a clever network of watchtowers to keep a lookout for fires and barbarian attacks.

Limes is based on the designer's board game Cities, and while the game system is roughly the same, the scoring is completely different. In addition, the tiles in Limes have a different layout from those in Cities. Together, these changes ensure that Limes has become an entirely new game. (Limes includes two sets of cards, one for each player, but if you combine copies of the game, any number of people can play at the same time.)

Each player has his own deck of cards. One player shuffles his deck, then places a card at random on the table; each other player takes this same card and places it on the table in his own area. Each player can optionally place one of his figures on this card; once a figure is placed on a card, it cannot be returned to the supply. The second card played (and all subsequent cards) much be placed adjacent to or touching the corner of an already-played card. After each card placement, a player can either place a new figure on this card or move an already-placed figure; a figure can move from one territory to an adjacent territory, e.g., from woods to lake or from grain fields to woods.

The game ends as soon as a player has placed 16 cards in a square (4x4 cards). Each player then receives points as follows:

  • Farmers receive one point for each connected grain field.
  • Fishermen receive one point for every house situated directly adjacent to their lake.
  • Watchmen receive one point for every patch of woods they can see in a straight line (north, east, south, west) from their tower; other watchtowers block their view, so they can't see woods behind those towers.
  • Woodcutters receive one point for every territory to which they can deliver wood, e.g., every different adjacent territory.

The player with the most points wins, with ties being broken in favor of the player who has the highest score with a single figure.

The Story:

In "Cities" you are the architect of a city of the world. You try to build a city that is most attractive for tourists. You position attractions close together. You build parks as big as possible and place terraces close to the water. You guide tourists to their favourite spots, because only through them you can earn your points.

The Dilemma:

But... you never know exactly which tile will be drawn next. Will you wait another round for the perfect tile? Will you adjust your planning? Or have you got a brilliant idea and can you position the tile in a way that it brings points for more than tourist?

Every player builds his own city and makes his own choices. "All" you have to do is make better choices than your opponents!
