Our intrepid adventurers have sailed on a journey, finding the hidden cave of a mythic monster. There are so many strange things there! The Captain allows the crew to search through the place and bring back to him what they have found, but by bluffing the Captain, they will try to keep the best part of the loot for themselves...

In Oh Captain!, an asymmetric game of changing roles, an adventurer must offer the loot cards they draw to the Captain, telling the Captain something about what the cards contain but not necessarily speaking truthfully. Indeed, some cursed objects can't be spoken of at all by the adventurers.

The Captain, who is safe from being attacked by objects, decides whether the crew member can keep the loot or not, and if the Captain turns down the offer, the crew member can decide to use an object against another adventurer. The latter player can overcome this by calling out a lie, winning or losing a coin based on who is right. The role of the Captain can be claimed by any adventurer who is richer than the Captain, and in the end the richest adventurer wins the game.

A total must-have

Warning : if you're not into having fun and need total control, this game is not for you.Oh captain is a simple but brillant proof that bluffing games can be simply fun and embedded in a charming themeing. It's only the beginning of a collection, and i can't wait to see the other titles that are promised as "totally differents for the others".It's an adventure, and an unique one, so take the ship now or you'll stay on the border.

COMPONENTSWhen you open the box, you're treated to packaging usually found in high end designer items. A colorful story booklet nicely sets the theme for this game and future releases. Basic assembly required to setup the cardboard treasure cave. The artwork is pleasing, though slightly cartoonish, but it's clear, a lot of thought and effort has been put into art and design.GAMEPLAYThe core game is bluffing using 4 different type of card items each with its own effect, until the native card is drawn. Points are scored for having the most of each type of items, minus the eggs from a sacred sea monster. The cards lack visual cues; that's found in a seperate dual sided reference cardboard. Game mechanics are simple enough to be grasped in the first round. Each character has their own special ability, my group felt it was making the game unnecessarily complicated, and the consensus was this is a clear motive for the audience to connect with the story characters for future VERDICTThe unanimous opinion is there is a lot of beautifully colored cardboard here that's attempting to distract from a weak social bluffing game.On the plus side, it plays 6, but gameplay becomes repetitive quickly. There are other games who deliver great depth and replay value such as COUP, AVALON, RESISTANCE, WEREWOLF, DEAD LAST, CASH N GUNS.This piracy here is the plunder on your wallet. Save your money and consider a better pirate themed social bluffing game, JOLLY ROGER.
